We can manage to make 2 pizzas at a time in our oven. If that's not quite enough, have a third (and maybe a fourth) ready to go in the oven as soon as the others come out. Slice up the cooked pizzas, and your guests should be kept well fed whilst the other pizzas are baking.

we did a slightly belated thank you lunch today for the friends who watched alu and gobi while we were in england last month. i made a bengali lunch: mushoor dal, mishti-kumror tarkari, and malai kari. all came out quite well. ended with punjabi dessert: the gajar halwa i made last night.

arnab, malai kari means shrimp curry, right? Have you posted the recipe somewhere? I also made prawn curry last night and mine was totally blah.
I also had people over for dinner and I made prawn curry, tandoori chicken , jeera rice, veg korma, salad, and custard & fruit for dessert . For appetizers, I had aloo tikkis and tamarind chutney. arnab, malai kari means shrimp curry, right? Have you posted the recipe somewhere? I also made prawn curry last night and mine was totally blah. malai kari is made with shrimp, but the name refers to cream of coconut. there are lots of recipes in the prawns thread, but i'm not sure if i ever posted my aunt's recipe, which has been my gold standard for some years now. -------------------- yeh sab kya ho raha hai, beta duryodhan? arnab@anothersubcontinent.com |

So I have three colleagues coming over for dinner later this week - non-desis, but foodies, so that's making me a bit nervous. Wanted to make something nice but not too complicated.
I want to do something with lemons since the meyer lemon tree is really going crazy in my backyard right now. So I think I will make lemon rice. Anything that goes particularly well with that? I will buy some chicken tomorrow and thought I might try a goan xacuti recipe that i've tried in the past, and I have some butternut squash, for which I'll use Loislane's recipe (a Madhur Jaffrey one, I think)... I also have mustard greens... any suggestions for what might go well with lemon rice, or even an easy lemon-based dessert would be much appreciated! -------------------- I'd rather have an orchestra in front of me, than a helicopter behind.

What be this gojju? no, no, i was in fact that its a strange combo! you do not know gojju ( or gotsu)? it is this onion-tomato-brinjal thing which is eaten with pongal usually, but also with some other things. its nice. should i give you the recipe? -------------------- my god, the butter!

fran, spicy lijjat papad and moongsprouts kosumbri with lots of fresh grated coconut is what i like with lemon rice.

I totally forgot!
I made the Goan Xacuti, the lemon rice, and the pumpkin. I forgot to soak the whole moong, otherwise would have made the kosambari... I also baked some bosc pears in honey and lemon and some nutmeg and cinnamon, and served them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They were a little burnt at the edges, which was very tasty! I didn't have fresh grated coconut, so I substituted some dry coconut powder in the masala and added just a dash of the canned coconut milk instead of the 1/4 cup asked for in the recipe. Next time I think I'm going to avoid that too, and see if it works just as well. I quite liked it with the reduced coconut. I had very few leftovers!! The chicken bowl was almost wiped clean, as was the lemon rice. -------------------- I'd rather have an orchestra in front of me, than a helicopter behind.

You know, the recipe called for it, but I clean forgot. So the rice was not yellow, just a little off-white. The meyer lemons aren't that sour, but boy are they tasty.
