Dinkar, welcome to AS

I think Unusual Smell had some pun in mind with your avatar/name *dinkar* but am too much of a tubelight to know what exactly he meant there. Do initiate a discussion and am sure others will join in.

i just gathered that ramdhari singh dinkar is dead. phew! now that's a relief. wouldn't have liked to discuss nirmal verma with HIM now. ok i'm not so tongue tied anymore, but there's another problem. i don't know anything about nirmal verma. dinkarji u think you can give this philistine a humble introduction to the great nirmal verma (other better read folks would join you in the discussion, of course), or rather what he does to you?

And for some others like me who might not know so,
Wiki on Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. Jnanpith Award Winner too, for Urvashi, a poetry publication.
ed. to add: Unusual, I think I did study him at some level at school, can't remember what though.

Member No 1 is a big fan I believe. I have read only a couple of short stories in transalation which I admired for their rather spare (minimalist?) style and haunting effect. He seems almost the polar opposite of Rushdie, was my impression. So am eager to hear your thoughts.
Maybe by the time Sue finishes Shantaram in Italian I will be able to read one of those stories in Hindi
