Manjula Padmanabhan on this Exhibition

The prints on view at this web-site were all made at Atelier 2221 in New Delhi, from mid-1999 to early 2003. Most of them are zinc-plate etchings, with a handful of lithographs. My subjects for the prints are those that have interested me over the years - whimsical representations of animal and human figures.

One of the recurring themes in my work is that of the hybrid - people, animals, objects, ideas, plants, stories - of mixed rather than "pure" ancestry. I think of myself as a hybrid, having grown up in different cultures to the extent that I don't feel a strong sense of belonging anywhere. This may explain why I enjoy my on-line life so much - the Internet is my true home! It exists beyond physical space through the minds and talents of those who use it. How fitting, then, to have an on-line exhibition, thanks to the kind invitation of Another Subcontinent
