Building Materials: The Sculpture of Dhruva Mistry
Another Subcontinent presents a retrospective of the work of renowned Indian sculptor, Dhruva Mistry. This exhibition features pieces by Dhruva Mistry from 1976 to the present day. We hope to present very soon another exhibition of selections from his drawings, prints and paintings. The exhibition will be featured on Another Subcontinent till July 3, 2007 and will then be archived in the "Visual" section of our features archive (see links at left).

About Dhruva Mistry
Dhruva Mistry was born in 1957, in Kanjari, Gujarat.He received his MA in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda in 1981. He then pursued another MA at the Royal College of Art in London from 1981-83 on a British Council Scholarship. In 1984-85 he was the Artist in Residence at Kettle’s Yard Gallery with a Fellowship at Churchill College in Cambridge. In 1994 he was selected for the "Asian Artist Today- Fukuoka Annual VII" exhibition in Japan. Dhruva was elected member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, London in 1993. He has shown regularly in one man shows apart from being included in significant group shows in national and international exhibitions. His work is held in major public and private collections in UK, Japan and India. He returned to Vadodara in 1997. He was appointed Professor, Head of Sculpture and Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University in May 1999 and quit in Nov 2002. He was awarded an Honorary CBE by Queen Elizabeth in 2001. Other awards include Award of Excellence by Gujarat Gaurav Samiti, 2006, Honorary Award of Doctor of the University of Central England, Birmingham, 2007. He lives and works in Vadodara.
