Submissions

So you'd like to be featured on Another Subcontinent...

Another Subcontinent accepts original work created by our community members and others. To be eligible for consideration either the material submitted or the person making the submission should have a direct connection to South Asia or the South Asian diaspora. Identities of potential contributors will be verified before consideration of material. Only original material is accepted and as a rule only material not already published will be considered (though allowances may be made on a case-by-case basis). We will require notification if material is being submitted simultaneously to other venues--such submissions will be given a lower priority.

It is not necessary to be a registered member of the community before making a submission. However, all featured pieces will be linked to threads begun in the relevant forums to discuss them, and we ask contributors whose work has been accepted to register and participate in at least those discussions. Material already presented on the forums will generally not be featured on these pages; however, we may occasionally invite members who have presented some of their work on the forums to adapt/extend that work for a feature presentation.

Another Subcontinent currently accepts work in the following genres:

Fiction (short fiction or excerpts from longer work, no more than 7500 words)
Nonfiction--Critical Essays, Memoirs etc. (we ask that critical essays be geared towards a nonacademic audience, no more than 5000 words)
Poetry (6-8 short poems or 1-2 long poems for a solo feature)
Original translations of creative or nonfiction work (translators must clear necessary permissions and furnish proof of the same, no more than 7500 words)
Photography (contributors to submit digital pictures in jpeg format)
Painting, Sketches etc. (contributors will have to submit the relevant images in jpeg format)
Reviews of South Asian and South Asia-related literature, film, art, music, dance, theater, performance, nonfiction etc. (these will not be presented as "features" on the main page but will be archived on an ongoing basis in the "reviews" section; no more than 2500 words)
Interviews with writers, artists, cultural commentators from South Asia and of South Asian origin (no more than 5000 words)

Submissions and enquiries should be emailed to submissions@anothersubcontinent.com. Submissions and enquiries should include real names, email addresses, mailing addresses and phone numbers. We will endeavour to respond to every email received and will inform contributors of decisions within 1 month of receipt of submissions. Please enquire before sending text or image attachments. For large images, in particular, we will always prefer to download images uploaded to a website (where possible).

Copyright for all works, whether selected or not, will always reside with the original authors/artists. However, Another Subcontinent retains the right to archive work published on this website in perpetuity and requires featured authors/artists to always acknowledge initial publication on Another Subcontinent if the work is later accepted for publication in another venue.
